The Golden State Warriors of the NBA have partnered with San Francisco’s independent craft brewery, Magnolia Brewing, to create a new co-branded beer, Dubs Golden Ale. That’s a great name for a beer and it’s also great to see a professional sports organization choose an independent craft brewery over the more common partnership with Big Beer.
Dick Cantwell is an owner and brewer at Magnolia Brewing and helped create Dubs Golden Ale. Cantwell’s former brewery, Elysian Brewing, now owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev, has done the traditional Big Beer partnership with the Seattle Seahawks and created The Noise Pale Ale. That’s not a beer name that rolls off the tongue. Give me a Dubs Golden Ale. #DubNation
UPDATE: On November 19, 2019, it was announced that Australian-based Lion Little World Beverages, a subsidiary of Japanese Big Beer, Kirin Holdings Company Limited, would be purchasing New Belgium Brewing and the deal would close by the end of the year. Magnolia Brewing is owned by New Belgium Brewing, Dick Cantwell and Oud Beersel. Lion will buy out the minority shares of Magnolia Brewing owned by Dick Cantwell and Oud Beersel.
